How do you actually budget for a bathroom remodel without guessing?

[dalecooper]

I’m trying to work out a realistic budget for our bathroom and I keep getting wildly different numbers from people, some say 20k some say 60k, and none of them explain what that actually covers. I want to read more about how a remodel is typically broken down before I commit to a number in my head, because I’d rather understand where the money goes than just pick a figure. What surprised me most is how much of the cost isn’t the visible stuff like tiles and fixtures, it’s the labour and the prep work you never see. For anyone who’s done a bathroom, what did yours actually cost and what blew the budget? And is there anything you’d insist on spending more on versus saving on?
